Bio

Dr. Gao Yuji is a Senior Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore, bringing over a decade of deep expertise in biomedical flexible electronics and biosensor development. She seamlessly integrates engineering, materials science, and life sciences to pioneer point-of-care testing (POCT) and wearable monitoring systems for both clinical and home use, with a vision to advance precision healthcare and personalized wellness. Her interdisciplinary work spans flexible hybrid electronics, microfluidics, functional biomaterials, immuno-electrochemical recognition, and wireless signal transmission, taking innovations from material design through to scalable, manufacturable devices. Her flagship development, a multimodal sensor platform, can detect an array of biomarkers using electrochemical, immunological, and nucleic acid mechanisms, combining high sensitivity and selectivity with industrial readiness. Notably, she led the development of the VeCare smart bandage, a wearable platform capable of detecting pH, temperature, bacterial types, and inflammatory markers within 15 minutes, enabling real-time, remote wound monitoring. Trained in mechanical engineering (B.Eng. and Ph.D.) at Tianjin University and with doctoral research at UC Berkeley, Dr. Gao is driving translation of her research through clinical partnerships, prototype-to-manufacturing optimization, and regulatory integration, all toward scalable, cost-effective health technologies that make a real-world impact.
