Bio

Charles Bong Hin Joo’s distinguished career is highlighted by his commitment to innovation, especially in the field of urban drainage management as well as advancing sustainability efforts. His qualifications, including a Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Drainage Management and a registered Professional Engineer as well as ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer has laid a strong foundation for his transformative contributions to both academia and industry. Charles’s commitment to the engineering profession extends to his active service in key roles such as a member of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) Malaysia Chapter Leadership Team (2022 – 2024) as well as elected Committee Member for The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (Sarawak Branch) for session 2025/2026. Previously, he served as an International Scientific Committee member for the 37th IAHR World Congress (IAHR2017). Charles obtained various awards related to research such as Gold Prize, Special Award and Special Prize at Seoul International Invention Fair 2022, Gold Award at Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE2020), National Book Award (Anugerah Buku Negara 2016 - Kategori Pengajian Tinggi: Buku Sains dan Teknologi Terbaik) and Top 1% Reviewers in Environment/Ecology 2018 (Publons). In year 2024, he was awarded the IAHR Malaysia Mid-Career Professional Award by IAHR Malaysia Chapter.
