Yoong Khean is a medical doctor by training with more than 15 years of clinical and public health experience. He began his career in Malaysia, with practice experience spanning primary care, emergency and trauma medicine, nephrology, cardiology and infectious diseases. Yoong Khean is Deputy Director and Assistant Professor at the Duke-NUS Centre for Outbreak Preparedness. He leads the health systems workstream at the Asia Pathogen Genomics Initiative (Asia PGI), supporting policy development and capacity-building efforts to strengthen the use of pathogen genomics for outbreak response and pandemic preparedness across South and Southeast Asia. His research interests include global health policy, health and regulatory systems strengthening.
