Welcome to the Sarawak SHInE International Conference 2026 (Science, Health, Innovation & Engineering).

We are delighted to welcome you to this multidisciplinary platform where healthcare, science, technology, and engineering converge to shape the future of Sarawak and beyond.

Organised by the Sarawak Research and Development Council (SRDC) and its subsidiary, the Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC), together with our co-organiser, the UKSEA Vax Hub, SHInE 2026 brings together local and international professionals, researchers, industry leaders, and partners to collaborate, share ideas, and address global challenges.

Over these three days, more than 300 scientists, clinicians, engineers, academics, and policymakers will showcase groundbreaking projects, exchange insights, and explore transformative solutions that advance innovation, promote health equity, and generate practical outcomes with real-world impact. The conference also places strong emphasis on youth development through the BrightSparX Programme, with the Premier BrightSparX Innovation Award recognising outstanding ideas from young participants.

With participation from international partners such as Asia PGI and DUKENUS, and local partner WireM, SHInE 2026 serves as a global platform for collaboration, excellence, and sustainable impact.

Together, we aim to catalyse meaningful partnerships, strengthen our innovation ecosystem, and ensure that progress in science and engineering enhances the wellbeing of our people and economy.

On behalf of the Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC), it is my great pleasure to warmly welcome you to the Sarawak SHInE International Conference 2026: Advancing Science, Health, Innovation, and Engineering.

This three-day conference brings together a vibrant and diverse community of experts and stakeholders from academia, industry, non-governmental organisations, and international agencies, alongside students and professionals from local, national, and global communities. This gathering reflects our shared commitment to advancing research and innovation, promoting health equity, and strengthening infectious disease preparedness.

This event is also a celebration of the partnerships and collaborations that SIDC has built since its inception and the start of its operations in 2024. It has been an incredible journey, with more than 30 active partners currently involved in the programmes and activities at SIDC, while our facility is still under construction. Imagine the potential ahead.

Through the conference programme and its delivery, we aim to create a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and meaningful dialogue. The inclusion of industry partners further strengthens the bridge between innovation, research, and real-world application. This conference also underscores the importance of the One Health approach , recognising the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health as we strive to enhance preparedness for future pandemics and promote sustainable, long-term health improvements. By fostering partnerships across sectors and borders, we move closer to practical and innovative solutions for marginalised and underserved communities.
